What is Morgagni Adams Stokes disease (MAS)

The Adams Stokes disease is named the names of the doctors who were involved in its study, an Italian Morgagni and Irishmen Adams and Stokes.

Adams Stokes disease is a sudden loss of consciousness accompanied by convulsions and respiratory failure because of acute hypoxia (oxygen starvation) of the brain. This attack is associated with the occurrence of blockages in the heart, followed by a sharp decrease in the contractility of the myocardium (heart muscle). It results in a condition called “heart block”. The heart rate slows and a person faints.
